Nevşehir Ortahisar Castle was annexed to the Ottoman Empire in 1470 by the order of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. Ishak Pasha Castle, also called the small Ortahisar Castle, which can be seen from the view on the east side of the castle, is said to be related to the conquest of Ortahisar Castle. Namely; Fatih Sultan Mehmet sends İshak Pasha to the region to solve the Karaman problem. As soon as Ishak Pasha arrived, he wanted to take Urgup Castle, also called Temenni Hill today. When it was time for the conquest of Ortahisar Castle, the people started to protect against Ishak Pasha and blocked the entrances and exits of the castle with huge millstones. When Ishak Pasha realized that he could not enter the castle in this way, he had tunnels dug under the ground and conquered the castle only by entering through the tunnels. It is rumored that the tar well at the entrance of Ishak Pasha Castle was opened during the conquest of Ortahisar Castle.
